Rugeley takes narrow win over Alton Rifle Club

Rugeley Rifle Club earned a close win against Hampshire-based Alton Rifle Club in a friendly today. Shooting on their home ranges, Prone and Benchrest teams shot Shoulder-to-Shoulder over two cards each, with the best five scores to count from teams of up to seven.

The prone teams fought a close battle, with Alton slipping ahead by just three points. Alton’s J. Mullins took the highest individual score of 198/200.

In the Benchrest, S. Forster of Alton was the only shooter to go clean, but Rugeley benefited from depth, with a lowest counting score of 197, which saw them take a decisive lead overall.

We look forward to a rematch in 2026!

GB officership for Martyn

Congratulations to Rugeley Rifle Club Chairman Martyn Buttery, who has been appointed Adjutant for the GB Dewar Team in 2025 and 2026. The Adjutant is an assistant to the Team Captain, and typically takes on the Captaincy following their term as Adjutant.

Staffordshire prizes in Eley Final

Three Staffordshire shooters claimed prizes this Sunday at the Prone Rifle Finals in the NSRA-Eley Competition. Rich Hemingway of Rugeley placed fourth in A-Class. Duncan Chilcott of Market Drayton placed 8th in D-Class whilst Alan Boyles placed 7th in E-Class.

Best of luck to Paul Watkiss, who has qualified for the Air Pistol finals in A-Class, to be held in October at Bisley.

Bronze at the Torfaen Open

Rugeley member Rich Hemingway claimed Bronze in X-Class at the Torfaen Open on Sunday. With light winds, Simon Green of Appleton led the field with 624.3. Sam Harris of Chippenham followed closely with 623.0 for Silver whilst Rich scored 620.2.

Former Rugeley member Liam Webster placed third in A-Class with 614.2. The Torfaen Open is held annually at Long Ashton Rifle Club near Bristol. The match consists of an ISSF Prone Rifle 60-shot course, shot on Megalink electronic targets.
